Birendra is an entrepreneurial banking and financial services CIO with work experience in US, UK and India. His expertise spans Capital Markets (Foreign Exchange, Fixed Income and Equities), Transaction Banking and Wealth Management with a particular focus on Digital and FinTech.
Birendra joined Martello in November 2024, and heads our Technology sector, focused on providing the right expert for the right case. This belies an extensive career in Investment, Commercial and Retail Banking IT. Until recently Birendra was CIO of Close Brothers and prior to that he was CIO of Commercial Banking at Lloyds where he successfully transformed IT for the Markets and Global Transaction Banking divisions. Prior to that he has held CIO roles at Nomura in India and had an extensive career at Citi in New York and London where he held numerous technology leadership roles from 1994 till 2008, with his last role being CIO for the Global Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities business.
Birendra is passionate about Fintech and is a Mentor at Level39. He is a strong proponent of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion and was the Chair of REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) networks at Lloyds and Close Brothers. He is a keen Cricket fan and was on the Audit Committee for the International Cricket Council from 2008-2012.
