John Turnbull is a senior banker and trade finance specialist with over 40 years experience of origination, negotiation, structuring, risk management and regulation of the full range of international trade transactions. Formerly Joint General Manager and Global Head of Structured Trade and Commodity Finance at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. John has acted as an expert witness in a number of high-profile trade finance legal cases in London, Singapore and Hong Kong.

 

He was co-chair of the International Chamber of Commerce Commission on Banking Technique and Practice Consulting Group for the most recent revision of the UCP and the ISBP. Former chair of the Association of Foreign Banks Trade Finance Committee, the ICC UK Banking Committee and a current member of the ICC Banking Commission Global Financial Crime Committee and the joint ICC, Wolfsberg, BAFT Trade Principles Drafting Group. Member of the AFB Working Group involved in the latest draft of the JMLSG guidance (Part II) on Trade Finance – Sector 15.

 

Representative on many national and international trade committees and boards including the International Energy Credit Association and Chair of the Advisory Board of the ICC Commercial Crime Services. John speaks regularly at conferences internationally on trade and commodity finance issues.
